Over years of listening, building systems, reading white papers, and watching the industry drift deeper into DSP‑heavy, marketing‑driven excess, I kept encountering the same pattern: when the signal path becomes more complicated, the emotional impact of the music often becomes weaker. On paper, the systems were “better”—lower distortion, more power, more processing—but they felt less alive. In contrast, simple analogue chains, low‑watt tube amplifiers, and well‑matched speakers repeatedly produced a kind of holographic, three‑dimensional experience that the spec sheets could not explain.
This book is my attempt to reconcile those experiences with a coherent philosophy of “truthful reproduction.” It is not a nostalgic plea to go back to the 1950s, nor a Luddite rejection of digital technology. Instead, it is an argument that if we take the waveform seriously—as a continuous, spatial phenomenon—and if we respect the limits and strengths of each technology.
